Hey folks...
I added an events calendar to the sidebar, so if you know of any events the group should know about in Milwaukee let me know and I'll add it.
You may be able to add to the calendar yourselves too... I'm not sure... I will figure out whether or not everyone can add events, and I can activate that if it's possible.

Didnt really know where to put this but also in the paper today was a bill that is going to be passed in MKE that will crack down on anti-gang loitering. This seems fine when you first look at it but then it talks about how blacks will be profiled and have to leave when police tell them too or they will be fined. I just wondered if any of you guys have ever had to deal with this? It would be really hard to be black in MKE

You're totally right. The ordinance stipulates that this is in regards to "known" gang members. I want to know who a "known" gang member is...
All this bill will do is put the young black community under an even more intense scrutiny by police and law makers.
The bill is aimed at stopping crime in Milwaukee which is typically perpetrated by young people... but not all young people are in gangs. Which leads to the question of what is a gang and where do the loiter, etc.
This bill is totally up to the interpretation of the police which are stereotypically biased towards race in Milwaukee.
I agree with "cajies" - this bill stinks.
It is just so blatantly racist, I just cant believe people could not see that... this is meg by the way
Spot on, Meg... spot on!
Here is a great article on the matter as well..

they said Mayor Barrett is suppose to decide today if he agrees with it or if he will veto it. It is pretty strange because it said most of the people disagreed with it, its good people have common sense but why doesnt our government system in MKE?
So watch the news today to find out what happened.
I'm really happy that we could all share ideas around coffee yesturday. If anyone is interested in helping out at St. Ben's Meal Program, let me know!
